Day 3 Waterberg

Spent the night here in Waterberg - this was the site of a famous battle in 1904.
Germans versus the Herero people - the Germans overwhelmed them fairly easily with light causalities all round but just to be sure the Germans chased the retreating Hereros into the desert and after 4 weeks most had succumbed to exhaustion and hunger. Around 65,000 people were wiped out and the Herero people were decimated. They say that there should be 1.8M Herero now - but the population is only a tenth of that

Waterberg camp is lovely - we got there in time for a game drive up onto the plateau.   Didn’t see an awful lot of animals though - just Cape buffalo and giraffes - everyone else was hiding.

Day 16 Windhoek

Well not really anything to report today. Drove back to Windhoek- recrossed Tropic of Capricorn again Total miles driven was 2940 - stayed ...
